Tax credit claimants 'need to fill in forms'

Tax credit claimants have been urged to fill in their forms soon.

According to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC), those who do not complete the proper documentation by the 31 July deadline will not be entitled to receive anything.

Steve Lamey, director of benefits and credits at the company, noted that people need to take "urgent action" if they wish to get their claim, calling the process "simple".

In order to complete the process, individuals are encouraged to have their payslips, end of year P60 form and childcare details.

HMRC has also launched a series of online help videos that show people what stages they have to go through.

The group also unveiled a dedicated phone line for agents in order to provide them with experienced staff members who can help them with their enquiries.

Brian Redford, head of HMRC's business engagement team, said that the move was a response to the suggestions of agents.

The FSA does not regulate tax advice. Tax rules are subject to change.
