Over 80% of small to medium enterprises (SMEs) across London and the south east are failing to take up government funding.
Research by Ixion has discovered that most SMEs are losing out on funding available to invest in business training, the website onrec.com has reported.
A minimum of £1,500 is available to SMEs to use for training purposes, yet 71% of the SMEs interviewed for the poll said that they had taken no steps to capitalise on this.
Graham Baker, CEO of Ixion, told onrec.com: "In an increasingly challenging business environment, investment in training is critical."
"Businesses must realise that they can benefit from government funding available and have access to appropriate training to enhance their business, and in turn increase their competitive advantage."
According to Business Link, in 2006 there were over 300,000 companies in London with fewer than 250 employees.
