Federation slams website closure

The Federation of Small Businesses has slammed the government's decision to cease funding a website for smaller enterprises.

The Better Payment Practise Group was established over ten years ago to encourage small businesses and enterprises to pay their bills and taxes on time.

Earlier this month, the government took the decision to pull the plug on the service, with the current advice provided by the website being transferred to the Business Link Portal.

Tony Cherry, Federation regional chairman for South Yorkshire, told the South Yorkshire Star: "With impeccable timing, the government has once again demonstrated its total disregard for the interests of small businesses."

"Just as higher interest rates start to bite… the government chooses this moment to send a signal which effectively says they are no longer concerned with encouraging a responsible attitude towards on-time payment."

The Better Payment Practise Group was originally formed to promote "a better payment culture within the UK".

In other news, the Forum of Private Business has warned that small businesses and enterprises only have until 30 September to apply for small business rate relief.
